Active substance:
1 tablet contains: papaverine hydrochloride – 40 mg.

Tablets of 40 mg.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to papaverine and other components of the formulation; atrioventricular block; glaucoma; severe renal impairment; sucrose deficit / isomaltase, fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption; respiratory depression, coma; old age (the risk of hyperthermia); Children up to age 10 years (for a given dosage form).
Precautions: condition after craniocerebral trauma; renal funutsy; adrenal insufficiency; hypothyroidism; prostatic hyperplasia; supraventricular tachycardia; shock states; pregnancy, lactation (cm. “Pregnancy and lactation” section).

Indications
Spasm of smooth muscles: abdominal organs (cholecystitis, pilorospazm, spastic colitis); renal colic, peripheral vessels (endarteritis); cerebrovascular disease; heart (angina pectoris – in the complex therapy); bronchospasm.
Interaction with other drugs
Papaverine reduces antiparkinsonian effect of levodopa and the hypotensive effect of methyldopa.
In combination with barbiturates spasmolytic effect of papaverine amplified.
In a joint application with the tricyclic antidepressants procainamide, reserpine, quinidine may increase the hypotensive effect of papaverine.
Overdose
Symptoms: double vision, weakness, decreased blood pressure, drowsiness.
Treatment: symptomatic (blood pressure maintenance).

Antispasmodic.
Pharmacodynamics:
Papaverine reduces the tone of smooth muscles, has a vasodilator and antispasmodic action. It is an inhibitor of the enzyme phosphodiesterase and causes intracellular accumulation of cyclic adenosine monophosphate 3.5, resulting in impaired contractility of smooth muscles of internal organs (gastrointestinal tract, respiratory and urogenital system), and blood vessels and their relaxation in spastic conditions. In large doses, it reduces the excitability of the heart muscle and slows intracardiac conduction. Effects on the central nervous system is weak (in large doses has a sedative effect).
Pharmacokinetics:
Absorption – high. Bioavailability on average – 54%. Relationship to plasma proteins – 90%. Well distributed in tissues, penetrates the blood-tissue barriers. It is metabolized in the liver. The half – 0.5-2 hours. Excreted by the kidneys in the form of metabolites. Completely removed from the blood by hemodialysis.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
Safety of the drug during pregnancy and lactation has not been established. During pregnancy and breast-feeding during the use of the drug is possible only in case if the estimated benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus or child.

Dosing and Administration
Inside. Adults 40-60 mg 3-4 times a day. The highest single dose – 200 mg daily – 600 mg.
Children older than 10 years on 20 mg 3-4 times a day. Children under 10 years are recommended to take the children’s forms of the drug.
