Indications
In the treatment of diseases of the eyelids, conjunctiva, cornea, anterior segment of the choroid and lacrimal ducts, caused by susceptible microorganisms sulfacetamide. For the prevention of infectious complications in the treatment of burns and injuries organ of vision.
Interaction with other drugs
Sulfacetamide enhances the effect of indirect anticoagulants. Joint application with procaine, tetracaine, benzocaine reduces bacteriostatic effect sulfacetamide. Phenytoin, para-aminosalicylic acid (PAS), salicylates increase its toxicity. Incompatible with silver salts.
Overdose
The cases of drug overdose not described.
pharmachologic effect
Pharmacological group:
The antimicrobial agent – sulfanilamide.
Pharmacodynamics:
Antimicrobial bacteriostatic agent, sulfanilamide. The mechanism of action caused by a competitive antagonism with para-aminobenzoic acid, digidropteroatsintetazy depression, disturbance of the synthesis of tetrahydrofolic acid required for the synthesis of purines and pyrimidines. Active against gram-positive and gram-negative cocci, Escherichia coli, Shigella spp., Vibrio cholerae, Clostridium perfringers, Bacillus anthracis, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Yersinia pestis, Chlamydia spp., Actinomyces israelii, Toxoplasma gondii. Possible development of resistance to sulfacetamide.
Pharmacokinetics:
Penetrates into the eye tissue, where it has its specific anti-bacterial effect. It acts predominantly locally, but part of the drug is absorbed through an inflamed conjunctiva and reaches the systemic circulation. The amount of drug enters the systemic circulation is not sufficient for the development of therapeutic systemic effect but sufficient to sensitization upon repeated administration.
When applied topically, the maximum concentration (Cmax) sulfonamides in the cornea (about 3 mg / ml), moisture anterior chamber (about 0.5 mg / ml) and iris (about 0.1 mg / ml) is achieved within the first 30 min after application. Some amount (less than 0.5 mg / ml) is stored in the eyeball tissues for 3-4 hours. If the damage corneal epithelial penetration sulfonamides amplified. Sulfacetamide metabolized in the liver by N-acetylation, metabolites possess antibacterial activity. Excretion sulfacetamide occurs in the kidneys by glomerular filtration.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
Use of the drug during pregnancy is possible only when the intended benefits for a mother than the potential risk to the fetus. It should refrain from breastfeeding during treatment because of lack of relevant clinical data.
Perhaps the development of kernicterus in newborns whose mothers took tablet formulations of sulfonamides during pregnancy, so it is impossible to eliminate the risk of jaundice while taking in the drug sulfanilamide forme- eye drops.
Conditions of supply of pharmacies
Without a prescription.
side effects
Allergic reactions, stinging, lacrimation, pain, itching of the eyes, transient blurring after instillation, non-specific conjunctivitis, superinfection development of severe allergic reactions to sulfonamides (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, fulminant hepatic necrosis, agranulocytosis, aplastic anemia).
If any of these instructions side effects are compounded or you notice any other side effects not mentioned in the instructions, tell your doctor.
special instructions
Patients with hypersensitivity to furosemide, thiazide diuretics, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, sulfonylurea or may be sensitive to sulfacetamide.
Possible excessive growth of micro-organisms sensitive to sulfonamides, and fungal flora.
Reducing the antibacterial activity of sulfonamides in the presence of high concentrations of para-aminobenzoic acid in the presence of large amounts of purulent material. Sulfonamides therapy must stop in case of allergy symptoms as well as in the amplification of pain and other symptoms of an infectious inflammation, increasing the number of purulent discharge.
Effect on ability to drive and use machines:
In the case of blurred vision after instillation should refrain from driving and classes of potentially hazardous activities that require high concentration and psychomotor speed reactions to restore visual acuity.
Storage conditions
At a temperature of not higher than 15 C. Keep out of reach of children.
Dosing and Administration
1-2 drops into the conjunctival sac of 6-8 times a day (every 2-3 hours). The course of treatment 7-10 days. Number of instillation can be reduced as improvement. During the treatment, due to Chlamydia trachomatis eye diseases, the dosage – to 1 drop every 2 hours topical application of sulfanilamide should be combined with systemic therapy.
